Biography:

Mohammad Reza Shajarian | Vocalist
(born September 23, 1940 in Mashhad, Iran) is an internationally and critically acclaimed Persian traditional singer, composer and Master (Ostad) of Persian music. A living legend of Persian classical music, Shajarian is also known for his mastery of Persian calligraphy and humanitarian activities.
His best works has been in collaboration with Parviz Meshkatian, Mohammad Reza Lotfi, Hossein Alizadeh, and Faramarz Payvar. His singing is technically flawless, powerful, and strongly emotional. In Persian classical Dastgah music, singing is the most difficult art to master and Shajarian is the embodiment of the perfect singer and a major source of inspiration. In 1999 UNESCO in France presented him with the prestigious Picasso Award, one of Europe's highest honors.

Homayoun Shajarian | Tombak Player/Vocalist
(born May 21, 1975) is a renowned Persian classical music vocalist, as well as a Tombak and Kamancheh player.
He was born in Tehran in a music-dedicated family. He is the son of Mohammad Reza Shajarian, who is in turn the grand master vocalist of Traditional Persian music. Upon his father's advice, he began studying knowledge of technique and rhythm under supervision of Nasser Farhangfar, master of Persian musical instrument: Tombak, at the age of five. Afterwards, he also continued learning Tombak under Jamshid Mohebbi's supervision. He commenced learning Persian traditional vocal Avaz at the age of ten, alongside his senior sisters under father’s supervision and gained knowledge of Avaz techniques and voice-producing. Simultaneously, he attended Tehran Conservatory of Music and chose Kamancheh as his professional instrument as well as being tutored by Ardeshir Kamkar. From 1991, he accompanied father in concerts of Ava Music Ensemble in US, Europe and Iran, playing Tombak; and from 1999 on, started accompanying father also on vocals. His first independent work Nassim-e Vasl, composed by Mohammad Javad Zarrabian, was published on his 28th birthday, in 21 May 2003.

Majid Derakhshani | Composer/Tar Player
Was born into a family of artists from the Iranian province Semnan. During his studies of string instruments and composition at the University of Teheran, the legendary Mohammad Reza Lotfi became his teacher.
Subsequent to his emigration to Germany he founded the “Nawa Musikzentrum” in Cologne; the primary and most active center for Persian music outside of Iran. In Iran itself Majid Derakhshani is deemed to be amongst the best on his instrument – the tar. Hence he carries the venerable title “Ostad”, denoting him as a “master of his instrument”. His virtuosity has been celebrated worldwide in festivals, concerts, radio and television productions.
Moreover, he has composed for myriads of international musicians, such as the greatly renowned Iranian Singer Mohammadreza Shajarian (Album “Dar Khial”). Majid’s declared ambition is to familiarize western culture with Iranian classical music. He views himself as an ambassador of these magnificently mystical melodies which themselves lead dynamic lives of their own where change is certain and compulsory. Thus, a novel musical style developed, that spices oriental music with European elements. The subliminal magic of his harmonies enthrall unswervingly, enchanting people of all ages. Especially in a time replete with one-dimensional and superficial stimulation, this music may serve to enlighten us.
